Description

A pretty piazza, a beautifully lit church and outstanding food. Set in one of the prettiest tree lined piazzas in Florence, the Accademia restaurant is right opposite the church of San Marco which is beautifully lit in the evenings. This one room restaurant offers a friendly welcome and the informal, English speaking waiters are suitably attentive not intrusive. Award winning salumi feature among the antipasti and there are excellent old fashioned primi (try the spaghetti with tiny meatballs of veal). Main courses are of a constantly high standard, including delicious stuffed rabbit, tender veal steak and an outstanding beef fillet with juniper berries. A blackboard announces the availability of fresh fish and shellfish in addition to the main menu. Alternatively, order the commendable tasting menu and have a different glass of wine included with each course. The extensive wine list which runs to about two hundred and fifty labels, has been carefully compiled by Gianni, one of the owners, a qualified wine expert.

Description

Dine with the opera stars in this elegant, family run establishment.Upon entering the unassuming door of this small, family-run trattoria, you will be taken over by the warmth and hospitality of the family and the trattoria itself. In the main room, black and white photographs cover the walls attesting to the history of this establishment: long has it been the favourite eating place of the musicians, singers and performers of the nearby theatre, Teatro Communale, who affectionately dedicate each of their photographs to the wonderful meals prepared by Armando and his family. The formula is simple: a warm welcome (maybe a glass of prosecco while you wait for your table to be set up?), genuine, simple, and beautifully presented regional dishes (make sure to check out the specials board and the home made desserts), a simple but selective local wine list and the feeling that you are witnessing some historical-artistic legacy – you might just also be sitting in Pavarotti's chair.
