Antico Setificio Fiorentino

Antique looms recreate ancient and luxurious textiles in this unique and beautiful studio.

Florentines have always been a little bit obsessed with luxurious textiles, and indeed the history of silk weaving and tapestries in Florence goes well back to the late Middle Ages. The Antico Setificio Fiorentino testifies to this. Part workshop, part showroom, with a generous helping of history, the Antico Setificio has been in its current location since 1786, jealously guarding the looms, patterns and fabric designs of some of Florence's most famous textile families of the Renaissance.

Come here as much to experience the wonderful history of this disappearing technique as to gaze at the dazzling fabrics in the showroom where they have one off pieces such as cushions, handbags and fabric covered photo frames or, of course, gorgeous fabrics by the meter to furnish your home like a Florentine noble.

It was a great opportunity for us to get a little bit of an Italian taste into our house. I especially liked the silk cushions. The price is high but it is worth it, you get a good quality for what you pay.

On entering this place with my wife we were immediately enchanted. They actually print patterns on silk so if you want something specific then this is the ideal place. I would highly recommend it.
